Caring For Dogs In Winter

Winter is well along in many parts of the world and with the cold and snow come some things that could be hazardous to our dogs such as anti-freeze, keep it well out of reach and clean up any spills because dogs are attracted to its taste but it is deadly.

After getting home from a walk wipe your dog's paws with a warm damp cloth to prevent damage that can result from road salt. If you can get your dog to wear booties that would be even better.

Small dogs such as Chihuahuas, and dogs with short coats may need a sweater to help keep them warm in extra cold weather.

Be careful when walking near frozen streams and ponds, you don't want you or your dog falling through frozen ice.

And remember that skin can freeze in minutes so bundle up and keep walks short in extremely freezing weather.
